Prosodiya offers a notable approach for enhancing reading and writing skills among elementary school children, irrespective of whether they experience reading and writing difficulties (LRS).
This program systematically helps children recognize the rhythm of the German language. They learn to break down words into syllables and identify stressed syllables, ultimately linking these linguistic features with spelling rules. This skill development positions children to acquire reading and writing more effectively and independently.

Objectives
- Recognize stress patterns and syllable boundaries
- Distinguish and understand open (long vowels) and closed syllables (short vowels)
- Identify consonant doubling (pp, tt, mm, ck, tz) and lengthening marks (ie, silent h)
- Correctly spell words using learned features
- Continuous adaptation to each child's individual performance level
Target Audience
The content of Prosodiya aligns with the curriculum for 2nd and 3rd grades in most elementary schools, but it is also beneficial for older students experiencing literacy challenges.

Training Recommendations
- 15 to 20 minutes per day
- 4 to 5 training sessions per week
- A minimum total training duration of 8 weeks. The continuous adjustment allows struggling children to repeat activities more frequently, thereby extending their practice time.

Research Background
In 2009, Dr. Katharina Brandelik initiated research to explore the correlation between rhythmic language abilities and children's reading and writing skills. Her doctoral dissertation at the University of Tübingen demonstrated that children with reading difficulties often struggle with perceiving linguistic rhythm. In recognition of her findings, Dr. Brandelik received the Science Award from the Federal Association for Dyslexia & Dyscalculia in 2014.
This research laid the foundation for developing the Prosodiya program in 2014, conducted in collaboration with the University of Tübingen’s Prof. Dr. Jürgen Heller (Research Methods and Mathematical Psychology) and Prof. Dr. Detmar Meurers (Computational Linguistics), alongside Lernforum Brandelik, a tutoring and learning therapy provider. The current Prosodiya research team includes Dr. Katharina Brandelik, Jochen Brandelik, Heiko Holz, and Benedikt Beuttler.
